Defense Lawyers Allege Inconsistent Statements

Jennifer McCabe returned to the witness stand on Wednesday for a third day of cross-examination in the trial of her co-defendant, Karen Read. Read is accused of murdering McCabe's husband, John O'Keefe, in 2017.

McCabe's Testimony

Under questioning from Read's attorney, Alan Web, McCabe recounted finding O'Keefe's lifeless body in the snow outside their home. She testified that she saw Read's SUV parked outside the house around midnight, but O'Keefe never came inside.

Web presented phone data showing that McCabe's device searched for "how long to die in cold" hours after she discovered O'Keefe's body. McCabe denied making the searches.

After McCabe's husband, Matthew McCabe, completed a tense cross-examination from Web, Jennifer McCabe took the stand and testified that she woke up to Read screaming on the phone.
